Countries that drive on the left
A list of countries that drive on the left hand side of the road, and usually have the steering wheel on the right side of the car. All other countries drive on the right.
Most of the countries that drive on the left do so because they were former colonies of the British Empire, many countries who drive on the right were under the control the French.
There is a lot of debate about the origins of either keeping left or right on roads, but the main reason for choosing one side or the other is to give the driver of a wide load the best vantage point possible when passing another vehicle.
Many factors contribute to which side is favoured for example keeping left allows a riders sword arm to be free, or keep right for ease of whipping horses. So in a given country the particular historical factors at the time dictated which side of the road people tended to travel on.
